Chapter 4 - THE FINAL STAND

The night was freezing, the air heavy with the scent of damp earth and pine. Daniel stepped out onto the porch, his eyes adjusting to the darkness. He was no longer the CEO who commanded through screens; he was a man protecting his own.

A figure emerged from the treeline. He was tall, gaunt, and carried himself with a predatory fluidity.

"You think you can just buy your way out of this, Morrison?" the man shouted, his voice echoing through the woods. "You think because you have money, you can tell me who my wife and child belong to?"

"They don't belong to anyone," Daniel replied, his voice calm and steady. "They are their own people. And you are a ghost of a past that no longer exists for them."

The man laughed, reaching into his jacket.

Daniel had anticipated this. He wasn't a fighter, but he had hired the best in the world, and he had learned how they thought. As the man drew his weapon, a dozen red laser dots appeared on his chest.

From the shadows, the security team emerged—men who had seen wars and kept secrets for a living. They didn't shout. They didn't make threats. They simply stepped out, surrounding the man before he could even raise his arm.

"Drop it," the lead security officer said.

The man looked around, his bravado crumbling. He realized then that he hadn't just gone up against a CEO; he had gone up against a man who had dedicated his entire fortune to the preservation of those who couldn't protect themselves.

"It's over," Daniel said, walking toward him. "You’ve lost. You’ve lost your access, your control, and your future. The police are ten minutes away. They have everything they need to ensure you never walk free again."

As the man was tackled and restrained, Daniel looked back at the house. Sarah stood in the doorway, Lily wrapped in a blanket in her arms. The little girl looked sleepy, unaware of how close the darkness had come to swallowing them whole.

Daniel felt a profound sense of peace. He had lost his company, his board, and his status. But as he looked at the mother and child, he knew he had gained everything that truly mattered.
