My husband waited until my son and I finished dinner.

Then the child collapsed.

My knees struck the floor seconds later.

As my vision faded, my husband calmly whispered:

“Soon they’ll both be gone.”

I pretended to be unconscious.

A woman on his phone said:

“The trust only transfers if the deaths happen in order.”

My husband bent over my son.

Beneath the table, I found the boy’s smartwatch and pressed its emergency button.

911 listened as my husband described forged medical reports and plans to blame the deaths on contaminated food.

Then the woman said:

“You prepared two poisoned plates, correct?”

His face changed.

Only one plate remained on the counter.

A crash came from the hallway.

His mother fell against the wall.

She had eaten the missing meal.

My husband tried to stop her from calling for help.

But police were already entering the house.

Inside his locked office, they found insurance policies on all three of us.

My mother-in-law admitted she had helped him prepare the documents.

But she denied knowing the food was poisoned.

Then investigators examined the kitchen camera.

It showed my son switching two bowls before dinner.

He had overheard his father’s plan.

The child’s intended plate had gone to Grandma.

But the untouched bowl contained no poison.

It contained a tracking capsule.
