Chapter 5 - THE VALENTI CROWN

Two weeks later.

The storm had passed, leaving behind a crisp, brilliant autumn morning that flooded the Valenti estate with golden sunlight.

I stood in front of the massive antique mirror in the master suite, staring at my reflection.

The hospital gown was gone. In its place was a breathtaking, custom-tailored emerald silk dress that hugged my curves, its high back artfully draped to conceal the faint, silvery lines of healing scars along my shoulder blade—scars that were no longer a badge of trauma, but a badge of survival.

A soft knock sounded at the door.

“Come in,” I called out.

The door opened, and Leo walked in, wearing a miniature tuxedo complete with a tiny black bow tie. He carried a small velvet box in his hands, his face lit up with a massive, gap-toothed grin.

“Mommy Maya!” Leo cheered, running across the room and hugging my knees.

My breath hitched. Mommy Maya.

It was the first time he had called me that. Not prompted by Enzo, not coached by the nanny. Just pure, innocent truth.

I knelt down, wrapping my arms around him, burying my face in his soft dark hair as tears of pure joy pricked my eyes. “Hey there, buddy. Look at you, looking so handsome!”

“Papa sent me,” Leo said, holding up the velvet box. “He said it’s time.”

I took the box with trembling fingers and flipped open the lid.

Inside rested a magnificent diamond and emerald pendant, shaped like a soaring bird—a phoenix rising from the ashes—resting on a platinum chain.

The door swung open wider, and Enzo stepped into the room.

He was dressed in a pristine charcoal tuxedo, his silver tie immaculate, his dark eyes softening the moment they landed on us. He walked slowly across the room, kneeling beside Leo and me.

“It suits you,” Enzo said softly, his deep voice wrapping around me like a warm embrace.

“Enzo... I can’t accept this,” I whispered, looking down at the priceless jewelry. “It’s too much.”

Enzo gently took the box from Leo, lifting the necklace out. He motioned for me to turn around. With infinite care, he gathered my hair over my shoulder and fastened the clasp around my neck, his warm fingers brushing against the sensitive skin of my nape.

He leaned down, pressing a lingering, tender kiss just below my ear.

“You took glass meant for my son,” Enzo whispered against my skin. “You stared down the Moretti syndicate without flinching. You brought light into a house that has been cold and dark for ten years.”

He spun me around so I was facing him.

“Tonight, in front of every capo, politician, and elite in the city, I am hosting a gala,” Enzo said, his dark eyes burning with unyielding devotion. “I am introducing you to my world not as a guest, not as a survivor, but as my queen. As Leo’s mother. As the heart of the Valenti family.”

I looked at Leo, who was beaming with pride, and then up at Enzo—the terrifying mafia boss who had rewritten his entire universe just to keep a struggling waitress safe.

The fear was gone. The hesitation was dust in the wind.

I reached up, wrapping my arms around Enzo’s neck, pulling him down into a deep, fierce, absolute kiss that sealed our fate forever.

“Let them come,” I whispered against his lips. “I’m ready.”
