Chapter 2 - THE MID-MORNING EXECUTION

Across the city, inside the towering glass-and-steel boardroom of Hawthorne Enterprises, the emergency board meeting was descending into absolute chaos.
Daniel stood at the head of the mahogany conference table, his face flushed with righteous fury, holding a printed copy of Arthur Vance’s legal notice. His father, Richard Hawthorne, sat slumped in his chair, staring blankly at the document as if it were written in a foreign language.
"This is a mistake! A clerical error!" Daniel roared, slamming his hand against the polished wood. "Sterling Global Capital doesn't hold our debt! The primary lender is First Meridian Bank!"
The glass doors of the boardroom swung open.
Arthur Vance strode into the room, impeccably dressed in a charcoal bespoke suit, followed by two junior associates carrying thick leather briefcases. Arthur was a shark in a pinstripe suit, and he looked at Daniel the way a cat looks at a trapped mouse.
"There is no clerical error, Mr. Hawthorne," Arthur said smoothly, taking a seat uninvited at the table. He placed a leather-bound folder before Richard Hawthorne. "As of 8:15 AM today, Sterling Global Capital has exercised its primary acceleration clause on all outstanding commercial loans, real estate mortgages, and revolving lines of credit extended to Hawthorne Enterprises and its subsidiaries."
Richard looked up, his voice trembling. "That... that's fifty million dollars. You can't just call our debt due immediately. We have a thirty-day grace period under the restructuring agreement!"
"Not when a breach of collateral integrity occurs," Arthur corrected with a cold smile. "Paragraph 14, Section B: Any act of gross negligence, criminal endangerment, or malicious liability directly involving primary beneficiaries of the trust voids all grace provisions."
Daniel sneered, leaning over the table. "What the hell are you talking about? What does a family dispute have to do with corporate debt?"
Arthur looked up at Daniel, his expression dripping with disdain. "Mr. Hawthorne, your mother attempted to poison the sole heir to the Sterling-Hawthorne trust yesterday afternoon. Legally speaking, maintaining your family's liquidity while they harbor a threat to our primary beneficiary constitutes corporate malfeasance. Furthermore..."
Arthur paused, opening a separate document.
"...Mrs. Victoria Sterling-Hawthorne has filed for divorce, full primary custody of minor child Noah, and an immediate freezing order on all personal assets, joint accounts, and corporate dividends associated with Daniel Hawthorne."
The room went dead silent.
Daniel blinked, processing the words slowly. "Victoria? She... she has no money of her own! She can't afford a divorce lawyer, let alone a freezing order! She's living in my house!"
"Correction, Daniel," a calm, familiar voice echoed from the doorway.
All heads turned.
I stepped into the boardroom, wearing a tailored cream trench coat and dark sunglasses, my heels clicking sharply against the marble floor. Behind me stood two federal process servers holding stacks of additional injunctions.
May you like
Daniel stared at me as if I were a ghost. "Victoria? What is the meaning of this? Get out of here before I—"
"Before you what, Daniel?" I interrupted, slipping off my sunglasses and meeting his panicked gaze with absolute ice. "Before you order me to pack my things? Before you tell me to apologize for saving our son’s life?"
