Chapter 5 - THE EMPIRE OF LIGHT

Two years later.

The courtyard of the Rossi estate was filled with the sound of running footsteps, bright laughter, and the splashing of water from the grand marble fountain.

Leo, now a healthy, energetic two-year-old with a shock of dark curls and a mischievous grin, was chasing a golden retriever across the manicured lawn, screaming with delight as he clutched a plastic toy truck in his hand.

Sitting on the shaded veranda, I watched them with a soft smile, resting my hand gently against my rounded stomach where a new life was quietly growing—a child meant to be brought home, loved, and kept safe.

A pair of strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind, and a familiar chin rested gently on my shoulder.

“He’s going to run our security detail out of business by the time he’s ten,” Lorenzo murmured, kissing the side of my neck. He looked relaxed, the harsh lines of a mafia don softened by fatherhood and peace.

“He gets his stubbornness from his father,” I teased, leaning back into his embrace.

“And his beauty and resilience from his mother,” Lorenzo replied softly, turning me around so he could look into my eyes.

The past was not forgotten. The ghosts of Isabella, of my little girl taken too soon, of the blood spilled on the marble floors—they remained part of our story. But they no longer defined us.

We had built an empire not on fear, but on survival, loyalty, and a love that had defied the darkest corners of the underworld.

Down on the lawn, little Leo stopped running, turned around, and flashed the exact same crooked, disarming smile his father gave me every single morning.

“Mama! Papa!” Leo yelled, waving his toy truck in the air. “Come play!”

Lorenzo laughed—a rich, booming sound that echoed across the courtyard, filling the once-silent fortress with endless light. He took my hand, intertwining his fingers with mine, and together we walked out into the sun.
